#HoustonvsHouston…What do you think?
Over the summer, South Texas College of Law changed its name to #HoustonCollegeofLaw. The University of Houston sued the school, because it thought the new name would cause “significant confusion” to prospective students and future employers. With the University of Houston Law Center being ranked 50th in the country in U.S. News and World Report, and its #HealthLaw and #IntellectualProperty Law programs being ranked in the U.S. News Headlines Top 10, it didn’t want the other school’s name change to potentially harm their reputation.
A few weeks ago, the #UniversityofHouston Law Center won this #trademark #infringement battle. Houston College of Law is changing its name back to South Texas College of Law and adding navy blue to their school colors to distinguish the schools.
Do you think South Texas College of Law #infringed? Does the University of Houston Law Center have the right to not allow South Texas College of Law to use a city’s name in their school’s name? What are your thoughts? I want to know!
