Unofficial mixes have been the main attraction of SoundCloud, a #music sharing site that allows #artists to upload and share their music. These mixes take a snippet of songs from our favorite artists and are uploaded by users, which include prominent #DJs and aspiring #musicians. But with these unique remixes, #permission is needed from each artist to post the #copyrighted material on the site.
Unofficial mixes have never been on Spotify and Apple, because of #licensing restrictions. Spotify and Apple recently made deals with a music #rights management firm called #Dubset that allows them to #stream these remixes and DJ mixes. HOW?! Dubset is able to identify every #song and distribute the #royalties for each song to the appropriate labels and rights holders.
“Content owners have been very supportive. The publishing and label deals we have under license provides a large catalog to work with” Dubset CEO Stephen White told TechCrunch. “Some of the content that until now has only been on YouTube and SoundCloud to come to these great paid services where content owners will get paid!”
I say it’s a win-win for everybody!
