Back in May of this year, rock band Iron Maiden filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement against gaming company, 3D Realms, for their use of the name “ION MAIDEN.” To avoid a long drawn-legal battle, 3D Realms has decided to rename the video game to “ION FURY.” Iron Maiden’s lawsuit alleged that the game’s title would cause confusion among consumers, asserting that the game’s title was almost identical to Iron Maiden’s trademark in appearance, sound, and overall commercial impression.

The band demanded $2 million in damages from the gaming developer and sought several injunctions, including the destruction of any products with the name “Ion Maiden” and the cancellation of the domain name ionmaiden.com.

The CEO of 3D Realms gave a brief comment on the decision to rename the game stating, “it would be a disservice to our loyal fanbase and the fantastic developers to drag out a long lawsuit.”

Iron Fury will be released in August for PC gamers and launch on other gaming platforms such as Nintendo, PlayStation 4, and XBOX One.
